A Fine Whine from CBS (Again)

From CBS this evening (Friday):

Internet blogs are providing a new and unregulated medium for politically motivated attacks. With the same First Amendment protections as newspapers, blogs are increasingly gaining influence.
Heavens forefend! The same rights as newspapers! What is the world coming too?

While many are must-reads for political junkies, are some Internet blogs also being used as proxies for campaigns? In the nation’s hottest Senate race [Thune versus Daschle in South Dakota], this past year, the answer was yes....

...The two leading South Dakota blogs – websites full of informal analysis, opinions and links – were authored by paid advisers to Thune’s campaign.
Oh my gosh! And this was not true for Democrats? Are we just continuing the whine of sour grapes of the close race against Daschle? Are we upset that there is an emergence of freelance blogs, many of the best on the web coming from the right parallax view?

The Senescent Man will admit that the anarchic medium of blogs may be rife with flaws, but in the same way the miracle of the free market tends to be self cleansing, the blogosphere is likewise subject the self evaluation and self correction. The frauds will ultimately be exposed. But what's revolutionary about this medium is that what at one time had been accepted as gospel from the MSM (CBS being a prime example), is now scrutinized by an army of thousands.

Long may it reign.
